About Us & Porta Caribe.

Del Sur Adventures Inc, was formed in 2008 by Jorge Lopez and Alfonso Carrero. We were doing exploration of new rivers, mostly in the south part of Puerto Rico, for many years. We have combine experience of more than 20 years. Besides experience and courses taken in Canyoneering(canyoning or barranquismo), also in Rock Climbing, Caving, Industrial Rope Access & Rescue operations. Our main goal is exposed Ponce and Porta Caribe as a destination for practice Eco Tourism. Our tours locations are very close to our locals hotels, about 25 minutes, meaning that after the tour, you can relax at your hotel pool or beach front.

Porta Caribe, in Ponce, is a great place to practice Canyoneering. The steep mountains found in this area are close to the coast; they create different types of canyons thanks to the flow of the rivers that come from the Central Mountain Range. This Mountain Range has the highest peaks in Puerto Rico, like Cerro Punta at 4,389 ft.

At Del Sur Adventures, in the past five years we have opened many beautiful canyoneering routes. Some, are for expert level only, but most are suitable for the whole family to enjoy.

We have tours ranging from two to six hours, for beginners and intermediates. In this tours you will encounter: ziplines, river jumps, slides, hiking through dense forests and cool crystalline waters. For more information on our tours, please visit our webpage at www.delsuradventures.com.

In Ponce, you can enjoy different activities under the sun such as: kayaking, snorkeling, or simply relaxing at the beach. With us you can enjoy our mountains, rivers, and forests.

Canyoning (known as canyoneering in the U.S.) is to travel in canyons using a variety of techniques that may include other outdoor activities such as walking, climbing, rappelling, and  swimming. Its an “extreme sport” in which the participants slide, jump off boulders or rappel down rock faces through waterfalls into mountain streams that cut through a canyon; ropes and other protective equipment (such as helmets, and climbing harnesses) are used. The combined skills of caving, climbing, rapelling are used in this sport.

Canyons that are ideal for canyoning are often cut into the bedrock stone, forming narrow gorges with numerous drops, beautifully sculpted walls, and sometimes spectacular waterfalls. Most canyons are cut into limestone, sandstone, granite or basalt, though other rock types are found.

Canyoneering can be easy or extremely difficult. A wide variety of canyoning routes are found throughout the world, and canyoning is enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels.
